About Verruckt Herz

Verruckt Herz = Crazy Heart

Kelly Jean is the former owner of Verruckt Herz.  When we met her and her beautiful dogs, we knew we had found something very special.  Her passion and knowledge of the breed started a fire in us to carry on her legacy and fine reputation.  We purchased our first breeding pair from her - Cado and Penny (expecting Nov 2019) - in hopes of carrying on the line of top notch, quality German Shepherds she has been breeding since 2012.  She is fully behind the scenes, helping and answering questions as we start out our new endeavor.

About Our Family

We are the Haas Family - Chris and Stephanie along with our 6 children, Luke, Samantha, Rachel, Abby, Joel and Toby.  We have been married 21 years and have moved 11 times during our marriage.  We have lived in big cities, small towns, cookie cutter neighborhoods and are currently (finally!) where we pray we will never leave - the beautiful rolling hills of the Boston Mountains just north of Fort Smith, AR.

Chris worked successfully for 15 years in the corporate world, making it to the top of the ladder but never feeling satisfied.  He always longed for more for our family.  So in 2014, he courageously left his well paying job for a less prestigious position - one with less pay and more hours, no benefits (no medical benefits at least) but with the promise of more time with his family - working hard together as a team to fulfill our dream of homesteading.

In those 5 years, we have worked together in raising and butchering our own beef, chicken and lamb, growing and canning produce, clearing and fencing land for pasture ground, cutting wood to heat our home, selling produce and eggs at the farmer's market, and remodeling and selling houses for income.

But it hasn't been all work.  Volleyball with friends is a favorite around here.  Hunting, air soft gun wars, canoeing/kayaking, swimming, fishing, card and board games, crafts, and legos, are also some of our favorites to name a few.

But the best thing about this journey is being able to live out the Shema in Deuteronomy 11

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Take to heart these instructions with which I charge you this day. Impress them upon your children. Recite them when you stay at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them serve as a symbol on your forehead, inscribe them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

We are so blessed to be able to be there in those moments when our kids need wisdom!  It's easy to get caught up in every day life and forget why we're here.  We have been so blessed and we are so thankful!  We make a really good team and I know our new adventure of breeding these amazing dogs is going to be awesome
